Homebrewing 101

Interested in the brewing process? Want to learn how to brew your own beer? The first thing you should do is a little bit of light reading. Instead of trying to totally re-invent the wheel, we’ll simply point you to some great resources that we use ourselves.

in a very small nutshell

Beer in its purest form is made from barley malt, hops, yeast and water, although other ingredients are often used. Homebrewers are notorious for experimenting around.

Malted barley contributes sugars (and color) to the water for the yeast to consume during fermentation. Hops are used to contribute bitterness to balance out the sweetness from the malt, as well as flavor and aroma. The yeast? Well, they do the magic of transforming the sugars to alcohol and CO2 during fermentation.
